Path of Philosophy 哲学の道
The so-called path of philosophy ("tetsugaku no michi") is a plesant walk along a small canal in the Higashiyama district of Kyoto.
The path starts near Nanzenji temple (behind the Eikan-do Hall) and ends about 100m from the Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion).
The stroll takes approximately 30 minutes and is very popular during the cherry blossoms and autumn leaves season.
Honen-in Temple 法然院
This little subtemple was founded in 1680 in honour to Honen, founder of Jodo Buddhism, Japan's most popular Buddhist sect.
The temple's attraction is its secludedness in the woods of the Higashiyama and its lovely gardens. It is located in a bamboo grove about 10 minutes walk from Ginkakuji.
Admission is free. The temple is open from 7am to 4pm.
